Introduction to Operations Research

Dr. Hillier and Late Dr. Lieberman have been introducing students to the principals of operations research for decades. Much has changed in the world in the 40 years since the first edition of Introduction to Operations Research was printed, and the text has changed with it. Through the years, the authors have worked to adapt the text to the changing needs of students and professors. With each new edition, the authors have found ways to improve and update their popular text. With the current 8th edition, they chose to focus on the real world relevance of operations research techniques and real world applications.

The new edition features the latest developments in OR, such as metaheuristics, constraint programming, multicechelon inventory models, spreadsheet modeling, and more. A significant addition to this edition are the eight new cases and the numerous existing cases(over twenty in number) that have been expanded and improved. The cases employ a compelling storytelling approach to illustrate real word business situations. "The cases generally require relatively challenging and comprehensive analyses with substantial use of the computer," explains Frederick Hillier. "Therefore, they are suitable for student projects, working either individually or in teams, and can then lead to class discussion of the analysis."

Dr. Hillier and Late Dr. Lieberman realize that, if you want students to be able to leave the course, ready to tackle real world business problems, you need to introduce them to the software that today's businesses use. So, it is not surprising that Introduction to Operations Research includes examples formatted for LINDO, LINGO, and What'sBest! in almost every chapter and includes appendices detailing how to use the LINDO and LINGO software. Student versions of LINDO and LINGO are now provided on the complementary CD-ROM that comes with this book.

Introduction to Operations Research by Frederick S. Hillier and Gerald J. Lieberman is published by McGraw-Hill Higher Education (ISBN 0073017795).
