Introduction to Mathematical Programming
Wayne Winston's Operations Research text has been one of the most popular texts for teaching introductory OR classes. Introduction to Mathematical Programming is a subset of the popular OR text that focuses on linear, integer, and nonlinear programming. At over 900 pages, it is one very comprehensive subset.
Authors Wayne Winston and Munirpallam Venkataramanan have designed the text to teach how to formulate models, use software tools to solve models, and interpret the software's solution output. Every topic includes a corresponding computer based modeling and solution method and every chapter presents the software tools needed to solve practical real world problems.
Introduction to Mathematical Programming includes a CD with student versions of LINGO and LINDO. Winston was one of the first authors to incorporate a modeling language such as LINGO into an introductory operations research textbook.
"I find LINGO to be the easiest to use and most powerful of all modeling languages. It quickly solves all problems I throw at it. LINDO, of course, is perfectly suited for both a basic LP course and solving huge LP's and IP's," reports Winston. |
